Victoria Memorial
Designed by the famous engineer Sir R. N. Mukherjee, the founder of IISCO and Martin Burn, the white marble
monument dedicated to Queen Victoria of England is an elegant piece of architecture that houses rare
collections of paintings on Kolkata from its founding days and articles and documents belonging to the colonial
period. Spending a relaxed afternoon on its green lawns on a horse-cart ride would be memorable.
Indian Museum
Located at the city centre (Esplanade), the Indian Museum is a house of rich
collections of anthropological, historic, geological and scientific remnants
and models.
College Street
Stated to be the largest book publishing and selling centre in the world,
College Street has also nurtured many heritage educational institutions,
including the Calcutta University and Presidency College (founded as Hindu College in the year 1817).A
visit to the Coffee House, the meeting place of litterateurs, intellectuals and students could be enthralling.
Dakshineswar KaliTemple
Founded by Rani Rashmoni located on the bank of the Ganga about 10 km northeast
of Kolkata, the temple has become famous for its association with the saint Sri
Ramakrishna, a modern time reformer of Hinduism.
BelurMath
Founded by Swami Vivekananda, Belur Math is the head quarters of the
Ramakrishna Mission, the religious and philanthropic organization with a
world-wide network. Situated on the western bank of the river Ganga in a
serene atmosphere, about 15 km from Kolkata, the temple is worth
visiting.
Rabindra Sadan and Nandan Complex
The Complex is the cultural centre of Kolkata with a spacey auditorium, cinema hall, theatre and meeting
rooms where festivals, entertainment programmes and intellectual discourses
are a round-the-year affair
Nandan is a government sponsored centre in Calcutta, India for facilitating
film awareness and includes a few comparatively large screens housed in an
impressively architectured building. It shares its site with the Rabindra Sadan
cultural centre. The complex, besides being a modern cinema and cultural
complex, is a popular hang-out for the young and the aged. Nandan was
inaugurated by Satyajit Ray in 1985. He designed the logo for the complex as
well. Nandan is the symbol of art and culture in the city which is termed as the
Cultural Capital of India.
Shaheed Minar&Maidan
The Calcutta Shaheed Minar, formerly known as the , was erected to commemorate
Major-general David Ochterlony, commander of the British East India Company's main force in the GorkhaWar of
1816. The northern fringe of the vast park is known asMaidan, adjoining Esplanade.

Marble Palace
Built by Raja Rajendro Mullick in 1835, the Marble Palace exhibits the art
forms of Italy, the Netherlands, England, and other European nations. The
interiors of the palace-the floors, walls, and tabletops-are all made of marble.
This palace, set behind a large lawn, has the sculptures of Jesus Christ, theVirgin Mary, Hindu Gods,
the Buddha and Christopher Columbus. A large pool near the small granite bungalow has ducks,
peacocks and ostriches.
Eden Garden and Burmese Pagoda
Lord Dalhousie brought the Burmese Pagoda from Burma in 1854 as
a token of conquest of an area that was ruled as part of the British Raj. The original wooden structure
rotted away with the passage of time.
Eden Garden is the oldest cricket ground in India and is also considered one of the finest in the world.
It was created in 1840 and named after the sister of Lord Auckland, the former Governor General.
